The Best Man Guide: Want to Give a Really Unique Gift?
Last week, via our Wedding Gift Giving Guide, we walked you through how to decide what gift to give your mate and his bride on their wedding day. In the Guide, we mentioned the "Frame Your Gift" option. More specifically, you frame your original, or a professionally written, copy of the best man speech you delivered at your friend/relative's wedding and gift it to him and his new wife.
This wedding gift option helps the newlyweds relive their wedding day, is definitely unique, and helps extend the life of your best man speech by memorializing it forever. Also, your framed speech need not be given all by its lonesome self - you can present it in addition to another gift. For instance, if you and the groomsmen are giving a group gift, you can give your framed best man speech as something just from you.
To give this wedding gift, you can either do-it-yourself (print or hand-write your speech on a fancy piece of paper and then frame) or have it professionally prepared. However, we'd suggest taking the latter route because this will hang in someone's house. So, if your penmanship is more chicken-scratch than calligraphy, we definitely recommend having a professional write it for you. And we know a number of super talented calligraphers so contact us and we'll help you with the order. We won't even charge you for our help. Seriously.
Since this wedding gift is entirely based on your best man speech, and in case you make any on-the-spot changes to your speech, it wouldn't be a bad idea to wait until after the wedding to put it together. Of course, you can wrap it up in advance; especially if you prepared your best man speech a few weeks before the wedding. But if you do decide to wait, we recommend you have someone record your best man speech so every word is captured.
By the way, even if your friend/relative's wedding happened years ago, you can still give him this gift because all you need is a copy of your speech. Can we say anniversary gift?
